about

Music is an everlong means of survival; something I feel I have to engage in everyday to keep on ticking. I’m quite introverted and songwriting grew to be my primary means of expression and communication from childhood on. ‘Archetype X’ is the epitome of this. I was living in shambles off of St. Clair Ave in Toronto, in a room just about big enough for my guitar and I when I wrote ‘Archetype X’ as a means of self-therapy. It was one of the darkest and most tumultuous times of my life in many ways, and ‘Archetype X’ became the mantra that pulled me out of it.

“Meditation set to music it seems, a return to Jeff Buckley to a large degree, where the spectral meets a voice so pure it could be grown-up choirboy stuff. The words cut through the night air, and though quite simple, Archetype X feels powerful and primal, and as personal as a diary entry sang to a world that actually cares. I think I was already convinced, but that electrified denouement was the icing on a song that is an exhibition of passion in the most comforting of surroundings.” - mp3hugger

“Archetype X is absolutely outstanding—’picking the ol’ jaw up off the ground’ kind of outstanding. If Queen, Mimicking Birds, Radiohead and Led Zeppelin all had a beautiful love-child, thy name would be Jordan Paul. A single like this is such a massive indication of an artist putting everything they’ve got into their art in such a successful way that it is able to grasp firmly onto a natural feel & confident sound while breaking all kinds of genre-boundaries. I’m a big fan of what Jordan Paul has put together—he’s got me excited enough through Archetype X that I’d look forward to anything he puts out in the future.” – Jeremy Gladstone (music journalist)

Archetype X
Why were you born
To torment me
And be my Denna
Ocean-eye and fair complected
Archetype X
Why were you born

Easy charm
Flies to honey
All your streets
Are paved with gold

Archetype X
Why were you born
I want to know you
While you were on your own
What did you learn
I want to know your truth

Archetype X
Why were you born
To challenge me
And be my teacher
When all your beauty starts to fade
Archetype X
Where will you go

Your mask will fade
The truth uncovered
How will you look
When you've grown old

Archetype X
Why were you born
I want to know you
While you were on your own
What did you learn
I want to know your truth

Archetype X
Why were you born
I want to know you
While you were on your own
What did you learn
I want to know your truth
